The Call Every High Achiever Hears (And Why Most Refuse to Answer It)

The hidden pattern behind every extraordinary life (and why your restlessness is actually a good sign)…

Watch the full video above for the complete journey, or read on for the key insights that could change everything.

That Persistent Call You Keep Ignoring

You know that voice. The one that whispers when everything gets quiet. The one that won’t let you fully enjoy your success because it keeps insisting there’s something more. The one that makes you restless at 3 AM, questioning if this is really all there is.

Most people don’t understand that voice. Even fewer listen to it. But here’s what I’ve learned after a decade of helping hundreds of executives and entrepreneurs escape their golden cages: That voice isn’t random. It’s your life calling you toward something extraordinary.

My Unusual Request at Age 11

When I was eleven, I made what might sound like a crazy request to the universe. Standing in my small town, looking at the ordinary lives around me, I asked for just one thing: an extraordinary life.

I should have been more specific about what I didn’t want.

What I discovered is that when you ask for an extraordinary life, the universe doesn’t just hand it to you wrapped in a bow. Instead, it gives you an extraordinary journey—complete with tests, challenges, and transformations that forge you into someone capable of living that life.

The Pattern Every Extraordinary Life Follows

Whether you realize it or not, your life is following the exact same pattern that every great transformation has followed for thousands of years. Joseph Campbell called it the Hero’s Journey, and once you understand it, everything starts to make sense.

Stage 1: The Call

That restlessness you feel? That’s your call to adventure. Maybe it’s to:

  • Start that next chapter in your career
  • Leave the relationship that no longer serves you
  • Write that book
  • Have that difficult conversation
  • Make that bold move you’ve been contemplating

Stage 2: The Refusal

Here’s where most people get stuck. They hear the call and then:

  1. Ignore it – Turn up the distractions, stay busy, convince themselves they’re being “realistic”
  2. Wait for permission – Wait for the perfect moment, the right resources, someone else’s approval

Every day you refuse the call, you’re not staying the same—you’re actually moving backward.

Stage 3: Crossing the Threshold

The moment you stop waiting for permission and take action—any action—toward your call, something magical happens: the universe begins to reorganize itself around you.

For me, this meant choosing military school at 15. Not because my parents wanted it (they didn’t), but because I knew I needed to leave the familiar and step into the unknown.

Here’s what nobody tells you about crossing that first threshold: You’re not supposed to feel ready.

Tests Aren’t Punishments—They’re Invitations to Upgrade

When I failed calculus in engineering school—completely failed, stuck on page 12 while the class was on page 147—I had a choice. I could have seen it as proof I wasn’t smart enough. Instead, I asked: “What is this trying to teach me?”

That failure taught me the difference between stupidity and confusion. Confusion simply means you don’t have the information you need in the right format for how you learn. Once I swallowed my pride and asked for help, I became the top student in that same subject.

The person who failed and the person who mastered it? Same person. Different approach.

The Moment Everything Changes

In Costa Rica, lying under the stars on a balcony, I had what Campbell called the “apotheosis”—the moment of divine knowing. I suddenly understood: We are not separate from nature. We ARE nature.

We’re not separate from the intelligence that creates galaxies and designs trees to produce the oxygen we breathe. We ARE that intelligence expressing itself through human form.

This means your struggles, your questions, your seeming dead ends—they’re not evidence of something wrong with you. They’re the raw ingredients required to build you into who you’re meant to be.

Integration: The Secret to Having It All

I used to think I had to choose:

  • Be successful OR be present with my family
  • Be driven OR be peaceful
  • Be ambitious OR be authentic

But mastery isn’t about choosing—it’s about integrating.

When I chose to be present for my daughters instead of missing their childhood while stacking chips in the game of success, I didn’t give up on achievement. I redefined it on my own terms. Because I realized: Coffee with a 22-year-old will never make up for not taking her to the park when she was six.

You Don’t Climb the Mountain to Stay on Top

Here’s what happens when you complete your hero’s journey: You don’t do it just for yourself. You climb the mountain not to stay on top, but to bring the view back down.

  • Every wound you heal becomes wisdom you can share
  • Every mistake you make becomes mastery you can teach
  • Every dragon you slay becomes a path you can show others

Right now, someone needs exactly what you’ve learned. Someone is standing where you once stood, wondering if their extraordinary life is possible.

The Question That Changes Everything

Your extraordinary life isn’t a destination—it’s a direction. It’s not something you achieve; it’s something you reveal by stripping away everything that isn’t truly you while healing the parts that got wounded along the way.

And it all starts with one question:

What is calling you right now?

Not the call you think you should have. Not the call that would impress others. The call that won’t leave you alone. The one that makes your heart race and your palms sweat. The one you kind of wish would go away.

That call is your next threshold. Your next upgrade. Your next level.

Your Journey Has Already Begun

Here’s the truth: Your hero’s journey is already underway. It started the moment you first felt there was more to life than what you’ve been experiencing.

The only question now is whether you’ll trust it enough to take the next step.

I can tell you from my own wild and amazing ride—it’s worth it. It’s definitely worth it.
